Why Apply Day at NLMS!

Wear yellow tomorrow for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Our NLMS math teachers had a wonderful day of PD!

Join us in celebrating Homecoming next week!

Go Aggies

Mrs. Holmes's 7th grade Accelerated Math students completed an A+ activity called Maddy’s Debit Card. Students are practicing adding and subtracting rational numbers using a real-world application.

Mrs. Farr's 8th grade ELA classes identified plot elements in “The Monkey’s Paw” and analyzed those elements and theme in the story.

In commemoration of 9/11, Mrs. Merrell's social studies students created collaborative posters to display in the hallways of NLMS as a reminder of the tragic events that occurred that day and the acts of compassion and heroism that followed. Students also watched a 9/11 docuseries to examine firsthand accounts of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the fate of United Airlines Flight 93, and the challenges of rescue and recovery efforts.

Congratulations to Hannah Harp, our September Star Student of the Month.

Last Friday, NLMS Peer Helpers participated in training and also volunteered at Alabama Food Solutions, an organization that gives back to our own school and community in so many ways!
Each year, the Peer Helper program kicks off with a training that provides students with foundational skills on how to help support their peers. These Peer Helpers serve as role models and are equipped to assist fellow students with challenges they may face, whether academic, social, or personal. Through active listening and empathy, they offer a safe space for their peers to express concerns, seek advice, and find the motivation to overcome obstacles. The Peer Helpers program is a testament to our school’s commitment to student well-being and leadership development and we are so proud of their willingness to help others and play an integral role in our school’s positive school culture.
We are so grateful for The B.B. Comer Memorial Library, and their willingness and hospitality, for allowing us to use their facility for this annual training.

For the remainder of this month, if students have 0 absences and 0-1 tardies to school, they will qualify for a reward event.

See below for Tennis Team Player/Parent meeting

NLMS had an exciting assembly to kick off our Mindset in Motion program spearheaded by Mrs. Steers. Participants had to grow their minds by participating in various challenges. Some of these were hula hoop, dance, Rubik's cube, blindfolded basketball, and cup stacking with upside down glasses on.

Lady Aggies!

NLMS Aggies!

We had a wonderful visit from Dr. Tommie Mabry today at Nichols-Lawson. The students and the staff were encouraged and motivated by Dr. Mabry

Mrs. Spates's students are studying the different map projections and the difficulty of taking the surface of a round object, like the earth, and flattening it out.

Congratulations to Mrs. Lane, Health Sciences teacher at Nichols-Lawson Middle School. She has been named the Alabama HOSA Middle School Advisor of the Year. She also received the HOSA International Conference Award of Merit for Outstanding HOSA Advisor in June.

Students in Mrs. Reams' 8th Grade Advanced ELA class worked collaboratively to analyze, form inferences, and respond using text evidence to high level "Think and Focus Questions" about the "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe.
