Sylacauga City Schools is proud to announce a new virtual educational option for families - Alabama Virtual Classical Academy.

“Our school board recognized the need for families to have an additional educational option that would encompass high-quality virtual instruction,” Dr. Michele Eller, Superintendent.  “This virtual school option is not only available for Sylacauga City Schools students but also for students statewide.”

Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, the Sylacauga City School System is proud to partner with Accel Schools Network to launch the Alabama Virtual Classical Academy (AVCA) – a full-time, tuition-free online public school for students across Alabama!

Alabama Virtual Classical Academy expands access to high-quality public education, giving students across Alabama a diverse pathway to success, no matter their zip code. Your student does not have to reside in our school district to have access to the virtual education we offer. Whether your child needs more flexibility, added support, or a different way to learn, AVCA offers a future-ready education built to help us equip everyone for excellence.

For the 2025-26 school year, Alabama Virtual Classical Academy will serve students Kindergarten through Eighth grade, with subsequent grades added each school year.

AVCA will be led by a strong team of educators including Principal, Dr. April R. Siddique, the former principal of Virtual Prep Academy of Washington, and Provost, Dr. William J. Bennett, the former U.S. Secretary of Education.

The Alabama Virtual Classical Academy is the first virtual classical academy offered in the state of Alabama.
