Pinecrest Art Displayed at Old Supreme Court Library

Ten talented young artists from Pinecrest Elementary School were honored in November to have their student artwork on display at the Alabama State Capitol Old Supreme Court Library.

The Art Exhibition, titled “The Faces of Alabama: A Bicentennial Youth Art Exhibition,” was held in connection with the state’s Bicentennial celebration. Earlier this year Pinecrest was selected as one of 200 schools designated as a Bicentennial school.

According to Sylacauga’s art teacher Jack Vest, there were 150 works on display at the exhibition depicting significant historical and contemporary Alabamians. Each student whose work was selected for display used a variety of techniques and media to create mini-portraits.

The Pinecrest artists featured at the exhibition were Avery Roberts, Quenterio Lewis, and Landon Crocker from the fourth grade; and Maggie Watkins, Mariela Arevalo, Tre’vyn Wright, Aaron Cruikshank, Taneah Cunningham, Layne Johnson, and Vivian Huynh from fifth grade.

The Sylacauga Board of Education recognized the extraordinary talents of the ten young artists at its December board meeting.
