Marching and Concert Bands

The Sylacauga High School Marching Aggie Band is an exciting program full of exciting students. We entertain Friday night crowds

at every football game trying to make every experience better than the last. We strive for excellence which can be seen in our impressive trophy collection that spans the hall of our band building. Practices begin around the end of June and go into full effect when we have Pre-Band Camp and then Band Camp; both of these events occur in late July. If you would like to be a part of this band family, please contact our band director, Mr. Samuel Childs and\or the Sylacauga Guidance Office for more information.

Concert band begins the spring of the New Year and consists of eager students excited to play the symphonies of famous composers. We attend exhibitions and listen to other bands so that we can become an even greater symphonic group. Several of our students are accepted to All-County and even a few are accepted to be a part of the All-State Symphonic Band. Students who would like to take part must sign up for the class which can be done through our Sylacauga High School Guidance Office.

The Sylacauga High School Band Booster Organization promotes academic excellence through the support of academically oriented activities and enrichments directed by the Sylacauga High School's Band Director(s) and the Sylacauga City Board of Education.  SHS Aggie Band Boosters meet every third Tuesday of each month in the band room.  The specific meeting time shall be determined at the general meeting in May by officers present. The band t-shirt are printed at the beginning of marching season in September. This tee is designed around the theme of the halftime show and each band member receives one to wear at band functions throughout the year.  For details on becoming a member or the SHS Band Booster Club, go to the Band Booster link under the Parent section.

Theatre

The Theatre Department has been in existence for a number of years at Sylacauga High School. In the 1980s into the 90s, the theatre was thriving under the direction of Mrs. Suzy Hammonds. Following after her was Ms. Deetsie Webb who partnered with Mrs. Janie Giddens, and then Mr. Chad Littleton. The SHS Aggie Theatre began under the direction of Ms. Lauren Taunton in August of 2016. In the 2016-17 school year, the theatre classes produced a version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas, which was taken and performed at the elementary schools. In the same year, they presented the inaugural Thespian Fest, which was comprised of a series of short plays and scenes. In the 2017-18 school year, the Theatre II class produced a play entitled Almost, Maine, followed by a Theatre I Christmas-themed short play festival. The following spring of the same year, students in the Theatre I classes presented the second annual Thespian Fest, which took place in April, and the Musical Theatre class produced Seussical JR., which took place in May. The Theatre Department is thrilled with its growth over the last several years and looks forward to producing more quality educational productions.
